Recommitment to Excellence
February 01, 2022
Cornerstone Prep Denver is a school with a lot to celebrate! They’ve achieved some of the highest scores in the district on TN Ready, received Level 5 growth on TVAAS for consecutive years, and have established a culture of learning that reflects the organization’s core values: Prepared, Respectful, Engaged, Purposeful, Resilient, Optimistic, Courageous, Kind, and Self-Controlled. When you walk through the halls of the school, it's evident that these values live in the hearts and minds of the entire school community.
Because of the the difficulties of COVID, Cornerstone Prep Denver wanted to ensure that students did not experience any additional learning loss. For that reason, they committed to making sure that staff members increased their efforts to design lesson plans that had additional scaffolds, anchor charts, and strategies to push student thinking. The reinforcement of these methods helped to boost student engagement and close the gaps created by a year of hybrid and virtual learning.
The leadership team and staff were so impressed by the students’ ability to meet the demands of the rigor, and to exhibit the school’s values, that they wanted to honor the moment. They decided to capture their momentum as a school community by creating a PREPROCKS Recommitment Ceremony. This ceremony would be used to show families, staff, and students that everyone is committed to not only starting strong, but finishing strong as well.

The scholars of CPD were invited to a ceremony, where members of their Behavior Team, their teachers, and leaders lit a candle for each of the PREPROCKS traits and explained their significance. To mark the transitions from being committed to recommitted, male students were given a bowtie to wear, and girls were given a crosstie to symbolize their transition. These ties serve as a symbol of professionalism, and are a constant physical reminder of the students’ commitment to PREPROCKS in the school, and in life.
To round out the ceremony, every scholar took a picture with their new attire, and proudly presented their certificate. We are proud of the work of each of the scholars’ and are confident that they will make their mark this year!
