Staff Spotlight | Judy Thompson
January 29, 2021
“I look forward to coming to school daily, to help students overcome personal and academic challenges so that they can become their very best selves.”
As the School Counselor for Cornerstone Prep Lester, Judy Thompson gains inspiration and motivation from making a positive difference in the lives of students.
Originally from Clarksdale, MS, Judy received her Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Delta State University after completing her Bachelor in Psychology from Brenau University. The most rewarding parts of her job comes from building self-esteem and being the “safe place” for students to express themselves emotionally.

“It makes such a difference when a child is able to openly express what’s going on in their life and talk about what’s on their mind, which may not fit in the classroom setting.”
Judy comes from a large family and after her own children became school age, she wanted to be in a role that empowered students.
“I wanted to support students in all ways: gifted, special needs, behavior challenges, trauma. I think this is the purpose of a school counselor, and I am very glad that I can do this every day. Capstone is the most strategically focused environment for student achievement and development. Every element is comprehensive to meeting student needs and moving them forward. I believe in it and am glad to be part of this.”
This year, Judy hopes to help students develop new coping strategies to overcome the many challenges we face in the community and the world today.
When Judy is not working she enjoys seeing the latest movies and doing activities with her family. She is also a fierce trivia competitor.
Your work is commendable and we are proud to have you as a member of our staff! Let’s all congratulate Judy for her contribution and for being the Spotlight of the Week!
