CPD Scholars Read 26 Million Words!

These 4 CPD scholars read 1 million + words in the NLE Reading Challenge!

On Friday, April 29, native Memphian and rapper NLE Choppa visited Cornerstone Prep Denver (CPD) where more than 100 scholars who met the NLE (Need Learning Everyday) Reading Challenge of reading at least 100,000 words each during this school year recognized and celebrated! The word counts were tracked as scholars took assessments on books they read using the Accelerated Reader program.

The NLE Reading Challenge kicked off at CPD in late October of 2019 when scholars in 2nd through 5th grades were challenged by the rapper NLE Choppa to read 100,000 words by the end of the school year. However, when COVID-19 closed area schools in early March 2020, this ended the efforts of many of the children. This isn't the end of the story!

Fast forward to 2021 where NLE Choppa returned to CPD, reviving his NLE Reading Challenge. Being a young man of his word, NLE Choppa sent a video message of congratulations to the scholars and provided giftcards to all that met his challenge.  

To date, more than 100 CPD scholars in second through fifth grade have met the NLE 100,000-word challenge - and four scholars have read over a million words!

Our first graders asked to join in the challenge so we set a goal of passing 50 AR tests. One scholar has met that goal and eight more are less than 10 books away!
