Scholars Lead the Way for National Junior Beta Club

“Capstone Education Group equips all students with the Wisdom and Knowledge necessary to succeed in college and to become leaders in their community.”

Student leadership is a part of CEG’s mission statement, and at the forefront of the initiatives are Cornerstone Prep Lester and Lester Prep. On February 9, 2022, the Lester Campus inducted 30 students to the National Junior Beta Club. In order to be inducted, students in grades 4-8 had to maintain A’s and B’s, have an exemplary behavioral record, and show promise for leadership within their student body. The National Junior Beta Club is recognized all over the country, and our students’ membership in the organization will allow them to participate in community service projects, and leadership development programs offered throughout the summer. This way, students will come to understand that their leadership in academics and behavior is not just limited to the halls of the school, but can have a far-reaching effect on a larger community stage.  

Before the ceremony, students in the school saw the decorations on the stage and were anxious about what was happening. They were buzzing about the opportunity and began to ask principals Latasha Harris of Lester Prep, and Eve Slaughter of Cornerstone Prep Lester, "How do I get into that group? What do I have to do to be a part of it?”  That’s exactly the level of excitement they wanted to spread across the school - Beta Club was something to aspire to for all students!

Several parents also grew in excitement when the upcoming event was posted on social media outlets and when students were asked to wear their best for the ceremony. One 8th grade parent said that she spent the last money she had on a special outfit to truly honor the special moment.  

"How do I get into that group? What do I have to do to be a part of it?” 

During the ceremony, all decorations were replete with black and gold  — signifying the official colors of the National Junior Beta Club, which signified the dignity and seriousness of the induction.  Student leaders lit 5 candles to signify the ideals of the organization:  truth, friendship, community, wisdom, bravery, hope, etc. After the candle lighting ceremony, each scholar was presented with a framed certificate and pen to denote their transition from scholars to leaders.  They made a pledge to uphold the values of the school, and the organization in every way. 

Over the next few months, the two schools will organize monthly meetings around how to increase the scholar’s leadership, and what it means to truly serve the community through their leadership. 

At CEG, we are daily fulfilling our mission, and believe it’s never too early for our scholars to fulfill it!
