Justine Brunett | Educator Spotlight

Justine Brunett is a proud Michigan native, where she graduated from Michigan State University and learned to handle the cold weather! Therefore, it is no surprise that some of her favorite Memphis activities include running on the Greenline or with Breakaway and enjoying outdoor spaces like Shelby Farms and the riverfront.

Justine brings great purpose and vision to her work as the English as A Second Language teacher at Lester Prep. “I believe working in education is a small way for me to help equip my students to create a more just world,” she says.

Justine challenges her students to think deeply about their lives and opportunities to enact change in their world. She says reading texts about social justice issues like racism or immigration with her students and seeing them ask thoughtful questions and seek answers bring great joy to her work in the classroom.

Next time you see Justine in the hallway, ask her to show off her ability to  speak Swahili!
