Carson Murphy | Educator Spotlight

Carson Murphy took the long road to the Capstone Education team. He started his life journey in his birthplace of Tyler, Texas, then moved across the globe to China, where he lived for 6 years. Returning to the States, Carson graduated from Belmont college in Nashville, TN before landing in Binghampton where he loves teaching math to Lester Prep scholars.

Carson inspires a love of math in his 8th grade students as he works with them on such things as solving quadratic equations. “I remember when one of my students told me that she hated math because she was bad at it,” Carson shares. “I told her she didn’t hate it. She just didn’t love it yet. 1.5 years later, she graduated from Lester Prep, went on to high school and had an A in her high school Algebra 1 class without any additional tutoring or help from anyone because she was able to do the work on her own. She came back by the school several times last year to show me her report cards and talk about how thankful she was for all the work we did together.”

Carson enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at Shelby Farms and the zoo during the day and you might just catch him eating a Gibson’s donut, dreaming about a career as a singer/songwriter and watching the movie Gladiator after he puts the kids to bed.
